Chapter 01

Where gas lines fail: leaks, loose hookups and lines past their years

A gas system feeds stoves, heaters and the other appliances that keep a property running, and most of it is hidden in walls, under floors and in the ground. Trouble shows up in a few predictable places: a hookup at a range, dryer, water heater or fireplace that was never fully tight, a fitting that has worked loose over time, or an older line that has corroded.

A gas problem is a safety problem before it is a repair problem. A faint smell, a hissing near a connection or a pilot that keeps going out is not something to monitor for a week. It is a reason to call a trained plumber with the right detection tools in hand.

Detect, isolate, repair: how a gas call is worked

PrimeTime uses detection tools to find the leak, isolates the section, and makes safe, code-compliant repairs to restore the gas system. For new homes, remodels and commercial properties, the same crew installs the line: the route is planned carefully to avoid damage and corrosion, and the finished line is pressure tested before it goes into service.

Appliance hookups get the same attention as the main line. Ranges, cooktops, dryers, water heaters and fireplaces are connected so that every joint is tight and leak-free. Older or deteriorating lines can be upgraded or replaced with safer, more durable materials when that is the honest answer.

Estimates are free and carry no obligation, and the price is explained before any work begins. Every plumber on the team is licensed and insured, and gas emergencies go through the same 24-hour line at (903) 707-1503.

Chapter 03

After the work: inspections, and the signs that mean call right away

A good gas job ends with a test, not just a handshake. The line is checked under pressure before appliances are lit, so any weak joint shows up on the gauge instead of in the kitchen. Regular inspections, pressure checks and corrosion testing keep an older system honest and catch small concerns before they become hazards.

Call the same day for a smell of gas, a hiss near a line or appliance, burners that light unevenly, or a pilot that will not stay lit. If the smell is strong, leave the building first and call from outside.

PrimeTime Plumbing is licensed and insured, gives free no-obligation estimates, and takes gas line calls at (903) 707-1503 any hour.

If you smell gas

Three steps, in this order.

  1. Step 1

    Leave first.

Get everyone, pets included, out of the building. Do not stop to open windows or look for the source.

  2. Step 2

    Touch nothing that sparks.

Do not flip a light switch, plug or unplug anything, or use a lighter or match. Anything that can throw a spark can ignite gas that has built up inside.

  3. Step 3

    Call from outside.

Once you are clear of the building, call 911 if the smell is strong, then call PrimeTime at (903) 707-1503 so the line can be found, isolated and repaired safely.

Stay out until the line has been checked. Leaks are located with detection tools, isolated, and repaired to code before anyone lights an appliance again.
